Newport-Sullivan Lake District Ranger Gayne Sears will explain the ideas they have about management of the Batey-Bould trail system for the short term and long term. Sustainability and eventually a showcase trail system as an economic driver is what their ultimate goal is for motorcycle opportunity in Pend Oreille County. However, to get there they may have need to take short term actions to alleviate possible safety hazard situations.

Gold Creek Lodge and PANTRA are happy to be bringing back the Weatherly Ride. The neighbors of Gold Creek Lodge, the Weatherly family, have been clearing the Gold Creek and Independence Creek area trails for nearly 40 years. In years past, the Weatherly family hosted an annual PANTRA ride followed by a large BBQ. This was an opportunity for PANTRA members to get a guided tour of some of the best backcountry single track around.

This Wallace to Avery ride is ~80 miles (round trip) of mostly technical single-track for intermediate to advanced riders only!

If you’re not sure if you qualify as an “advanced rider” and would like to come, there are several exit points that will take you to Moon Pass Road and back to the staging area if the ride becomes too difficult or if you have a bike or body breakdown. We recommend you bring a friend that doesn’t mind riding back with you if turning back becomes necessary.

We will be staging at the Cranky Gulch trail head just outside of Wallace (see map) at 9:00 am. From Cranky Gulch, we will head down Slate Creek and make our way towards Avery. We will refuel and have lunch at Avery before we head back towards Wallace via the Nelson Ridge Trail #186.

This is a PANTRA group ride where we will be riding from Canfield to Spades and back. The rout we take will depend on how many riders and the skill level of the group(s). Riders should be capable beginners, and above, and be able to ride 50+ miles of a combination of single-track, double-track, and FS roads.

Spades Tower is no more (torn down) but it’s still a fun ride that’s relatively easy. Don’t forget to pack a lunch.
