The Weatherly/Gold Creek Ride (2016)
June 25th 2016 is when PANTRA and Gold Creek Lodge brought back the historic Weatherly Ride and BBQ to the Gold Creek and Independence Creek area.
The neighbors of Gold Creek Lodge, the Weatherly family, have been clearing the Gold Creek and Independence Creek area trails for nearly 40 years. In years past, the Weatherly family hosted an annual ride in some of the best single track around, followed by a large BBQ. The event got so popular, it became too big to manage by the Weatherly family and was discontinued.
The resurgence of the Weatherly ride by PANTRA and The Gold Creek Lodge was as popular as ever. There were around 60 riders, from capable-beginners to experts, that split into groups that reflected their skill levels.
The different groups set out in different directions and, combined, covered most, if not all, of the trails in the area.
The weather was perfect with clear sky's and temperatures in the mid 70's. The rain from the day before made the Gold Creek trail a little slippery. However, overall, the rain left trails like Declaration, Independence Creek, Ermine, Devil Peak, Kick Bush, Powder-Larch, Green Monarchs, Packsaddle, and the rest of the area trails in perfect condition for epic single-track riding.
After a day of riding, everybody returned to Gold Creek Lodge for a potluck and BBQ provided by PANTRA and our members. Hope to see you next year!
